Early Voting Starts Friday - September 20, 2023
View in your browser

Dear ,

Early voting starts on Friday, September 22. Both parties are encouraging people to vote early, and VICPP is too. Confirming who in your congregation has already voted allows you to focus your encouragement on those who haven't yet. Click below to find the location of early voting sites around Virginia.

Early Voting Locations

VICPP has been inviting congregations to pledge to be 100 percent voting congregations. Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church is one of five AME congregations that have pledged to be 100 percent voting. Most congregation choose to display their banners outside to encourage neighbors to vote too.

Second Presbyterian Church has a long history of advocacy and engagement. Their banner is hung inside the building in a visible location. Even though you think everyone in your congregation will vote, it is important to remind people regularly and visibly.

Shiloh Baptist Church has its banner on its parking lot fence where it is easily seen from the street. These banners are free to congregations that pledge to be 100 percent voting. The pledge is committing to do your best to get everyone voting. The best way to do this is to encourage early voting. VICPP also sends congregations a toolkit to assist in encouraging people to vote.

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church has its banner at the entry door area. So you see there are lots of places these banners can be hung. And there are lots of ways your congregation can encourage voting.

We are excited about the number of congregations that have taken the pledge so far. Won't you too take the pledge.

Become a 100 percent voting congregation

If you take the pledge, you join a prestigious group of congregations. Here's the list as of today.

  • Providence Transformation Church International (Lynchburg)
  • Bethel AME Church (Roanoke)
  • Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Lynchburg
  • Rehoboth AME Church (Chesapeake)
  • Rock Spring United Church of Christ (Reston)

Don't you want to join this admirable group? Take the pledge. Let us send you a banner and the toolkit. And if you want to join our study of congregations and voting, there is a modest financial incentive available.

Thanks to everyone who has requested postcards. We've got almost 9,500 out the door. Still looking for volunteers to take the last 500. (If you're interested email Robert@virginiainterfaithcenter.org). Thank you.

Sincerely,

Promote the Vote!

Join us on October 4, 11 AM, at the Bell Tower, Capitol Square in Richmond

VICPP is collaborating with REV UP* Virginia and more than a dozen disability and allied organizations to amplify the voices and votes of the 1.4 million Virginians with disabilities, and their families. Here's a link to a recent Op Ed. People of color are overrepresented among those with disabilities, and the challenge of low income is widespread because of un- and under-employment. Whether the result of genetics, incident, or aging, disability is a fact of life for many and, eventually, perhaps for most. We invite you to join us at the press conference to stand up, sit down, or roll through in support of expanding and preserving voting access, like early, absentee, and polling place provisions, in addition to calling for resolution of barriers to employment and relief from poverty.

*REV UP stands for: Register! Educate! Vote! Use your Power! It is a campaign of the American Association of People with Disabilities.

100% Voting Congregations

Take the Pledge

As people of faith, we believe that participating in democracy is an opportunity and an responsibility. VICPP encourages congregations to support their members in voting and engaging on issues. VICPP's and congregations' civic engagement work must be nonpartisan. Pledge today to help your members vote. Congregations that pledge get a free toolkit and banner to hang outside. Congregations that want to participate in a study about congregations and voting can receive an extra incentive of $500.
