Weekly Roundup - Oct. 29, 2025 - Your Voice Matters: Critical Week Ahead for Virginia
View in your browser

Dear ,

This week brings significant developments across our Commonwealth that demand our attention and action. Our hearts remain with all those affected by Hurricane Melissa, and we continue to hold these communities in our prayers as recovery efforts progress.

Meanwhile, our General Assembly is convening in special session to debate a constitutional amendment on redistricting. This afternoon, the proposed amendment HJ6007 advances to the House Privileges and Elections Committee. Here's what you need to know: constitutional amendments require passage through both chambers twice, with an election cycle between sessions. If approved during this special session, the amendment will return for consideration in the 2026 General Assembly session making your continued civic engagement essential.

In other state news, Governor Youngkin has declared a state of emergency for Virginia. During Tuesday's press conference, he announced changes to emergency food assistance for SNAP recipients. Virginia has created a new temporary program called the Virginia Emergency Nutrition Assistance (VENA) that will distribute funds to EBT cards weekly beginning November 1st, rather than releasing all benefits at the beginning of the month. Recognizing that this change in distribution may create additional hardship for families, the state has also allocated an additional one million dollars to assist food banks. If you or someone you know relies on these benefits, please spread the word.

As we navigate these important state issues, we're now just six days away from Election Day on November 4th, and time is running out to make your voice heard. Early voting ends November 1st; don't wait to cast your ballot. If you plan to vote on Election Day itself, here's what you need to know:

  • Polls will be open from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM
  • If you're in line at 7:00 PM when polls close, stay put! You have the right to vote as long as you're in line before closing time
  • If you experience any challenges at your polling site, call Election Protection immediately at 866-OUR-VOTE
  • Verify your registration and locate your polling place now. A few minutes of planning today ensures your vote counts on November 4th

Your voice matters, and this is your moment to use it.
