Weekly Roundup - May 21, 2025 - ACT NOW! Proposed federal budget bill threatens millions
View in your browser

Dear ,

Over the weekend, House committee members voted to advance the proposed budget bill to the House Rules Committee. The Rules Committee must now vote on a "rule" to send this urgent legislation to the House floor. Once advanced, a critical floor vote will happen within days — potentially as early as tomorrow morning. Congress adjourns Thursday for Memorial Day weekend, making immediate action essential.

If approved, millions of children between the ages of 7 to 17 face the immediate loss of SNAP benefits. Even more alarming, according to Congressional Budget Office projections, over eight million Americans could lose vital Medicaid services due to new barriers deliberately created by increased enrollment obstacles and eligibility checks. Hundreds of thousands of Virginians will lose critical healthcare coverage, and lives will be lost as a direct result. The economic impact will be felt by everyone, as hospitals—required to provide emergency care regardless of a patient's ability to pay—face mounting unpaid bills that will force rural facilities to close permanently.

We must unite and act now! With the recent passing of Congressman Gerry Connolly, it is even more important that our Virginia representatives stand united on the right side of justice. Join thousands of concerned citizens flooding representatives with urgent calls tonight and tomorrow. Call 866-426-2631 immediately and demand that your representative vote to protect our most vulnerable neighbors. If you can add that you are a Virginia Interfaith Center member, it adds your voice to a chorus of others and increases our collective power.

Dear [Your Representative],

My name is [NAME], and I live in [Town/City], [State]. Please vote NO on the reconciliation bill. This bill would cut Medicaid, terminate coverage for millions, and impose harsh barriers like work requirements—all to fund tax breaks for corporations. In Virginia, over 200,000 people could lose coverage. Due to new and onerous work reporting requirements, up to 480,000 Virginians would be impacted and at risk of losing coverage. This will harm children, seniors, people with disabilities, and working families in your district. It would also raise out-of-pocket costs, threaten rural hospitals, and leave entire communities without access to care. We need solutions that protect health care, not take it away. Thank you for voting NO to Medicaid cuts and for protecting our most vulnerable.
