Distracted, but still need to focus - October 11, 2023

Dear ,

I'm feeling a bit distracted this week by all that is occuring in the world. Horrified by the killing in Israel and fearful of likely escalation, I join those praying for peace and longterm solutions.

The disfunction in the U.S. Congress has been distracting as well.

But, it is only 27 days till the elections and only 24 more days of early voting. People of faith can make a difference by voting and voting our values. We need to stay focused.

Things you can do -- now:

1) Encourage your congregation to take the 100 percent voting pledge and get that banner up in front of the congregation. Find more information HERE or see the link below. These banners are getting attention from congregation members and neighbors. We shipped out nine banners yesterday. Fun!

And breaking news -- today.  Three seminaries, Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology, Union Presbyterian Seminary, and Virginia Theological Seminary, have pledged to be 100 percent voting seminaries. Great, great!

2) Send this message to friends and family members. Put in your congregation's bulletin too.

Have you voted in Virginia's elections? Between now and November 4 you can vote early and register when you vote early. Here's the list of early voting locations and teams https://www.elections.virginia.gov/casting-a-ballot/early-voting-office-locations/.  Absentee ballots must be requested by October 27. You can also register and vote on November 7 at your home polling place.

3) Sign up to be an election protection advocate. The shifts are only 4 hours on election day, and you will receive training. Check out the announcement below for more details.

We will also be organizing a few canvasses on October 28th and November 4th. More information coming.

Sincerely,

Kim Bobo
Executive Director
