Now I've got to do my part -- making sure everyone who is old enough is registered to vote and encouraging everyone to vote, especially those who are registered but often don't vote in off-year (non-federal) elections. We will encourage these folks to vote early, so life doesn't overtake them on election day.
Luckily, through VICPP, we have access to publicly available voting records showing who is registered and who votes regularly. Of course, the records do not show how people voted, nor do we care. We want people to vote. Period. Having this information allows me to target my outreach.
I know in my heart of hearts that having congregations encouraging people to vote will matter. But, we want to prove this -- statistically. We have a research firm that will analyze the impact of our 100 percent voting work. Congregations with 100 or more members who participate in the study, which requires matching names with the voter files to see if our work really matter, will receive a $500 contribution to the congregation for participating in the study. Regardless of the money, I hope some congregations will help us "prove" what we know in our hearts that encouraging people in our congregations to vote really matters. If you are able to help us with the study, email me (Kim@virginiainterfaithcenter.org) or Robert (Robert@virginiainterfaithcenter.org).
I'm excited to announce that 17 more congregations took the 100 percent voting pledge this week. You do not have to be in the study to take the pledge. Get your congregation to sign up. See the list of congregations below.
We met our goal of volunteers writing individual postcards to 10,000 infrequent voters. Yeah!!
Now we are seeking 100 volunteers to be election protection advocates -- this is a commitment of four hours on election day. Training will be provided. See the information below, or sign up here.
And HOLD THE DATE: JANUARY 17, 2024 for our Day for All People Advocacy Day in Richmond. More details coming later this month.
Sincerely,
