Dear , One of my family’s traditions over the holidays is to review the highlights of the past year and share goals for the coming year. Although sometimes our goals end up taking more than a year, it is fun to look back and see progress. The Virginia Interfaith Center staff and board essentially do the same thing in our goal-setting process. We review the past year’s work and set goals and objectives for the coming year.
We have a solid policy agenda for the upcoming General Assembly – seeking limits to the use of solitary confinement, stopping profiteering in jails and prisons, addressing maternal health disparities, advocating more money for affordable housing and childcare assistance, and continuing to push for paid sick days. Click HERE to read up on our policy priorities. Fact sheets are available on our website for each of the issues.
Now’s the time to register for Day for All People, our advocacy day on January 18. Free buses are available on a first-come first-serve basis from northern Virginia and Tidewater. The early-bird registration, saving you $10, ends on December 31. We then have a Student Day of Action on February 2-3. Registration information for both advocacy opportunities is below.
After the General Assembly ends, VICPP will build on the civic engagement work we did this past year to lift our priorities with all candidates and encourage people to register and vote. Every Senate and House seat will be up for reelection with newly configured district lines. This provides a great opportunity to educate candidates and seek commitments on our priorities, thus positioning the work for 2024.
If you haven’t yet contributed to support our work this year, I hope you will donate before the year ends. You can give securely by clicking here. Contributions from supporters like you are critical to ensuring that together we make Virginia a more welcoming and equitable Commonwealth. VICPP is a nonprofit 501c3 organization with a platinum Guidestar rating.
Thank you for all you’ve done this past year – emailing and meeting with legislators, writing postcards to infrequent voters, holding educational forums, posting information in your congregation’s bulletin or community newsletter, contributing resources, and keeping Virginia and the work of Virginia Interfaith Center in your prayers. I’m grateful for 2022 and excited about the work before us in 2023. Thank you again for your partnership in the work.
Thankfully, Kim Bobo, Executive Director
