Over 5,000 subcontracted airport workers at Northern Virginia's airports have no paid sick leave or employer-provided health insurance. Workers who have kept the economy running during a global pandemic cannot afford to access needed healthcare or take care of themselves or their family members when sick. The Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority (MWAA) has the capability to set the standards for contractors to ensure that these workers have liveable wages and access to needed benefits. As people rooted in faith, we believe it is unethical to allow the suffering of our fellow community members continue.
We will be holding a faith-rooted direct action in front of MWAA's offices at their next board meeting. MWAA could take action on these policies as early as April 19th, so your support is critical! This direct action will culminate in attendees giving a letter to board members signed by over 400 members of faith communities across the Commonwealth. Join us!
